34 Days Self drive Uganda Safari Tour

Drive from  Entebbe airport to Kidepo Valley National Park via Sipi Falls on Mountain Elgon national park , with open roads that will lead you to the World Heritage-listed sites of Mgahinga National Park & Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park with gorilla trekking in the wilderness of open Savannah with Toyota rav4 or safari land cruiser with or without rooftop tents.

Day 1: City tour on boda boda

The boda bodas will pick you from your hotel in Kampala at around 8am and ride to Old Kampala mosque (which was constructed by Gadaffi), then proceed to Amin’s torture chamber. You will have lunch at a restaurant in town. You will ride to Owino market (the biggest in Kampala) where you can buy a lot of stuff at a cheap price. Visit Nakasero market (commonly food stuff) and finally you will ride around the central parts of the city. Return to your hotel, have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: Lubiri palace, Bahai temple, Namugongo martyrs shrine

The boda boda guides will pick you up from your hotel and then drive to Lubiri Palace where you will learn a lot about the Baganda culture, visit Bahai temple which was the first Bahai faith temple in Africa. You will have a stopover at a local restaurant for lunch. Drive to Namugongo martyrs shrine where Kabaka Mwanga killed those who refused to denounce Christianity. You might as well choose to do a night city tour as well. Return to your hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 3: Source of the Nile, sezibwa falls

After early morning breakfast, the travelers will check out of the hotel and start on the 3 hours drive connecting from kampala to jinja with stop over to  visit the Sezibwa fall. later proceed to Jinja, you will take a boat cruise to the source of the Nile. Check in at the Nile porch hotel, have dinner and spend the night or go for lazy camping if on tight budget.

Day 4: Itanda falls, visiting craft makers

After your breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Itanda falls where you will take photos. Return to Jinja town, have lunch and then visit the craft makers and cooperatives.

Day 5: Transfer to Mbale, tour Mbale town, Wanale falls

Have breakfast at the hotel and then check out. Then transfer to Mbale, visit Wanale falls and a tour a round Mbale town. Spend the night in Mbale.

Day 6: Nyero rock paintings, drive to Sipi (Kapchorwa)

You will drive to Nyero rock paintings in Kumi district. These painting were made by the indigenous people of the area. You will have lunch in Kumi town. You will the drive to Sipi area. Checkin at Noah’s ark where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 7: Hike to the sipi falls

Have breakfast at the hotel and then drive to the start of the hike. The activity will take you around 6 hours then return to the hotel for lunch. Later in the afternoon, you will visit the communities where you will learn about coffee processing. You will have a chance to taste the coffee. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 8: Transfer to Moroto

After your breakfast at the hotel, you will check out and transfer to Moroto which is about 6hours drive.  You will stay in the kraal/karatunga guest house where you will camp and get to share experiences with the Karimajong warriors. Dinner and overnight at the kraal/guest house.

Day 9: Manyata visit

After breakfast, you will go to Manyata village where you will see the Karimajong dance, games, and learn more about the culture.  You will then drive to Moroto town where you will start the Moroto hike which will take you around 7 to 8hours with a stopover for lunch. The top of the mountain will offer you a beautiful scenry of Moroto town and the highlands. You will also see the communities of people who stay in these mountains. You will camp at the top of the mountain where you will have dinner and spend the night

Day 10: Transfer to Kotido, community visit

You will descend back to Moroto town and then drive to Kotido. In Kotido you will visit the Karimajong community and the cattle market. Dinner and overnight in Kotido.

Day 11: Transfer to Kidepo – game drive

Transfer to Kidepo valley national park. Stop over for lunch in Kaabong. Check in at Apoka bandas / camp. Later in the evening, you will do a game drive where you will expect to zebras, eland, cheetah, lions, buffaloes, kobs, waterbucks, ostriches, crocodiles, pangolin, rock hylx, beautiful view of the Kidepo plains among others. Return to the bandas for dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Visit the ik people.

After breakfast, you will drive to the starting point of the Morungole hike. You will then hike the Morungole Mountains to see the ik people whose language sounds like spanish. These people also have a different culture that is interesting to know about. Drive back to the bandas for dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Game Drive that will lead to hotsprings – walking safari

You will do a morning game drive which will take you up to the hotsprings in the ostrich track. You will then return back for lunch and then relax. Then later on you may choose to take a walking safari with in the park. dinner and overnight as above.

Day 14: Transfer to Ziwa rhino sanctuary, Karuma falls

Check out of the bandas, and then drive to Ziwa rhino sanctuary. Stop over for lunch in Gulu( the largest town in the north). Before reaching the sanctuary, you will branch off to Karuma falls. Check in at Amuka lodge where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 15: Rhino tracking, transfer to Murchison falls national park

After breakfast at the lodge, and then track the rhinos which will take around 1hour. Then drive to Murchison falls national park with lunch at Red Chilli. If time allows, you can do ferry crossing and game drive to the south of the park. dinner and overnight at Red Chilli.

Day 16: Morning game drive – boat cruise to the bottom of the falls

After and early morning breakfast, check out of the lodge and drive to the park for the game drive where you will expect to see; hyenas, elephants, Jacksons hartebeests, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, kobs, African jackals, baboons, return back to the lodge refresh and have lunch. You will then go for the afternoon boat cruise on the Nile. It takes about 3 hours and you will expect to see; animals like hippos, elephants, crocodiles, buffaloes warthogs and various water bird species like African fish eagle, hammercop, kingfishers, African jacana, among others.  you will also see the Uhuru and the magnificent Murchison falls. Check in at red Chilli where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 17: Transfer to Hoima, visit the palace

After morning breakfast check out of the hotel, you will then drive to Hoima where you will visit the palace and Mparo tombs as well as the town and local markets. Dinner and overnight in Hoima.

Day 18: Transfer to Fortportal, visit tea plantations

Transfer to Fortportal which is about 4-5 hours. Lunch in Fortportal. And then visit the tea plantations, and botanical gardens. Dinner and overnight in Fortportal at Duchess hotel.

Day 19: Drive to Semuliki national park, view point, Sempaya hotsprings and back to Fortportal

You will drive to Semuliki national park where you will visit the Sempaya hotsprings. Along the way, you will have a stopover to view the Semuliki plains and then proceed. You will then drive back to Fortportal where you will spend the night.

Day 20: Amabere ganyinamwiru, crater lakes, kings palace and visit the local market

After breakfast at the hotel, you will drive to Amabere ga nyina mwiru caves a place will a lot of history. From the caves, you will hike and have a top view of the 2 crater lakes. If the weather is clear, you will have a view of the Rwenzori Mountains. Have lunch in town and then drive to Omukamas palace where you will learn about the Batoro culture. You can as well visit the local market. Dinner and overnight in fortportal town.

Day 21: Rubona basket weavers, transfer to queen Elizabeth national park, evening game drive

You will drive to Rubona basket weavers and then proceed to Queen Elizabeth national park. Lunch enroute in Kasese town and then proceed. Check in at bush lodge where you will spend the night. If time allows, you will do an evening game drive where you will expect to see buffaloes, elephants, and various antelopes among others.

Day 22: Game drive, afternoon boat cruise

After an early breakfast you will do a morning game drive in the kasenyi plains where you will expect to see lions, elephants, various antelopes, buffaloes among others. Drive to the Mweya peninsula where you will have a beautiful view of the Kazinga channel and the surrounding vegetation and animals. Lunch will be at the restaurant in Mweya.  You will then drive to the jetty where you will do a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel, you will expect to see hippos, buffaloes, elephants, African fish eagle, cormorants, crocodiles among others. Drive back to the lodge where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 23: Katwe salt lake, the craters, visit communities and cooperatives

After breakfast, you will drive to Katwe and visit the Katwe salt lake where you will be told about the mining process. Drive to Lake Myanyange where you will see flamingoes and other crater lakes around the park. Drive to Kyambura where you will see the Kyambura escarpments and have a view of the rift valley. You will also visit the communities and cooperatives of the people around the park. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 24: Kalinzu chimp tracking, transfer to Ishasha

After breakfast, you will drink to Kalinzu forest reserve where you will track chimpanzees. The activity will take about 4 hours or more. As you track you will spot other animals like monkeys, baboons. Return to the lodge for lunch and the check out. Transfer to Ishasha sector. Check in at the river lodge where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 25. Ishasha game drive, transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

After breakfast, you will do a game drive to search for the tree climbing lions. You will then transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park. check in at gorilla mist foe dinner and overnight.

Day 26: Gorilla tracking, Ruhija, transfer to Mgahinga

After breakfast, you will drive to the headquarters where your permits will be checked and then be allowed to enter the park. Your park guide will brief you about the activity and then you will start the tracking. When you find them, you will be allowed to spend 1 hour with the apes. Return to the lodge have lunch and check out. Transfer to Mgahinga national park. Check in at Amajambere ibiwacyu for dinner and overnight.

Day 27: Golden monkey habituation

After breakfast you will drive to the park headquarters with your packed lunch. The park guide will brief you about the activity and then you will start the activity. This is a full day activity, you will be able to see hoe the golden monkey live and spend their days. You will return to the lodge have dinner and spend the night.

Day 28: Batwa trail

After breakfast, you will do the Batwa trail which will lead you to the Batwa communities (these were the indigenous people of the forest and they will demonstrate for you how they used to live) and the caves. Along this trail, you will be able to spot some animals that live in the park, and various bird species. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the night

Day 29: Hike mount Muhabura, shozi crater

After breakfast, you will drive to the start of the hike. You will then hike to the top of mount Muhabura where buy you will be able to see the crater at the top. The top will offer you a beautiful view of the Virunga massif. You will then descend back. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 30: Transfer to lake Bunyonyi, kayaking

After your breakfast, you will check out and then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. You will kayak on Lake Bunyonyi. Check in at Buyonyi overland for dinner and overnight.

Day 31: Transfer to Lake Mburo

Have breakfast and then checkout. Transfer to Lake Mburo national park. Check in at leopard camp where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 32: Horse back riding and boat cruise

After breakfast you will drive to where horse riding starts. You will then do the game drive on a horse’s back. You will expect to see zebras, lions, giraffes, and various antelopes among others. Return to then camp for lunch. You will also do the afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo where you will see various water birds, hippos, crocodiles. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight

Day 33: Transfer to Entebbe, stop over at the equator

After breakfast at the camp, you will drive to Entebbe. You might choose to stop over at Igongo cultural centre where you learn about the Ankole culture and be able to taste locally made dairy products. You will drive to the equator where you will have lunch and take photos. You will then proceed to Entebbe. You will spend the night in Entebbe.

Day 34: Visit Mabamba swamp

You will drive to Mabamba swamp where you will board a canoe to look for the shoebill. As you look for the shoebill, you will also be able to spot other bird species that live in the swamp. After the activity, you will then drive back to Entebbe. The guide will then drop you at your hotel in Entebbe or the airport for your flight back home.
