Overview of the Road Trip
This route is geared towards taking you to the country’s most magnificent isolated Kidepo National Park. Your Road Trip will begin in Kampala, towards the North through Eastern Uganda in the Districts of Mukono, Jinja, Iganga, Kitgum and then to Kaabong District in which Kidepo National Park can be accessed in the Karamoja region at the Uganda and Sudanese border. The only predicament with this park is the distance to get there as it requires 4 days to get there despite the fact that the few people that have taken up this journey have had beautiful memories of the destination.
Travel Plan
Day 1: Drive to Kitgum
The highlight of this route is Kidepo national park that is located in the northern part of the country just at Uganda’s border with Sudan. So you will take the Eastern part of the country through the districts of Mukono, Jinja,Iganga with en-route lunch. You will reach Kitgum in the evening and check in a hotel for an overnight.
Day 2: Drive to Kidepo National Park
On this day you will wake up very early and have your breakfast. Then you will continue on your journey to this national park where you will reach late in the evening and check in for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Game drive & cultural villages
On this day you will wake up very early in the morning and have a cup of tea. Then you will go for an early morning game drive before 7:00AM before the early risers return to their dens from their night escapades. Such animals include the big five like elephants,lions,leopards,Buffaloes and others like warthogs,oribi, antelopes, giraffes plus various bird species. Then you will go for lunch and some refreshments. In the evening you will go and tour the cultural villages like Lorukur where one will learn more about such cultures through their dances, folk songs and storytelling. By this time, it will be already late and you will have to go back to your hotel and overnight.
Day 4: Drive to Gulu
On this day, you will embark on your drive back to Kampala but not through the the same route that you took on your way when going there. So please you will have a cup of tea very early in the morning and then drive with an en-route lunch and then proceed reaching Gulu late in the evening for dinner and an overnight.
Day 5: Drive to Kampala
This is the last day of this route and you will wake up very early in the morning and have your breakfast. Then you will start driving to Kampala through various districts like Packwach, Nwoya and Masindi.You will cross river Kafu and have lunch. Then you will branch off to Ziwa rhino sanctuary in Nakasongola-the only country’s home of these animals. You will track these animals for 1 hour and then embark on your drive back to Kampala reaching late in the evening and this will mark the end of this route.
